Class description:
How to assess your opponent and fence accordingly:
This class will focus on how to read your opponent, condition them, take advantage of their tendencies, avoid their strengths, exploit their weaknesses, and more.
What does a complete fencing game look like, and how do I know if I have one
This class will explore ways to assess whether or not you know how handle anything you might encounter in a fencing exchange or bout. Instead of just throwing things at the wall, we will create categories of behaviors that we can recognize and respond with to ensure we are limiting ourselves to behaviors to what we believe is correct.
Once those have been established, we will discuss how to refine, expand and alter of sense of the bout to account for greater levels of detail and breadth of experience.
A little about James:
James is a student of the KdF tradition and principal instructor at Goliath Historical Fencing Academy. His coaching and instruction are rooted in the notion that targeted skill development must happen on a student-by-student basis. He firmly believes that fencing should be grounded in a strong theoretical framework. He also believes that knowledge and technical execution should be cultivated in a way that gives the student confidence in their abilities. His goal is that the student walks away knowing that they can do something they couldn't do before.
A note about James from friend of the club, Quoc Lieu:
“For me personally, James has been coaching me since July 2023 and has been instrumental to my skill development and success as a Historical Fencer. I wouldn't be half the fencer I am today without his teachings and coaching.”
We hope to see you there!
